THE MEANING OF LIFE, THE UNIVERSE and PIZZA
In the movie “City Slickers”, Billy Crystal asks Curly, the trail boss, for the meaning of life. Curly lifts the index finger of his tobacco stained glove and says, “Just one thing”… but that’s it, that’s all he says with his weather beaten smile. We never really get from him exactly what he meant. But, when it comes to finding the meaning of life in the competitive world of pizza, Nick Bogacz has realized three things, and a lot more, that he eagerly shares with us here and in his recently released book, The Pizza Equation.
We feel our destiny, but sometimes ignore it. Nick Bobacz always knew his destiny from a young age. He always knew there was no reason not to believe he would be the guy that makes it. Nick says his success is measured by the people that work for him. If they can achieve whatever their dream is, a new house, a car, college tuition for their kids then Nick knows he’s reached the kind of success that really means something.
It’s a rambling conversation that takes us from Little League games on dusty Pittsburgh fields to awards at local pizza competitions to an Italian international championship for the best pizza in America. As our talk went on it became easy to see that these “three things” have guided Nick well through his journey so far and helped him create and build Caliente Pizza to five stores now with no reason to stop growing.
